Q&A

When young people start at Headlands, we make the experiencing as welcoming and relaxed as possible. This section answers some of the questions you may have, but if you would like to talk about anything else, please contact us by using the form below.

What should I wear?

At Headlands there is no compulsory uniform, if you wish to have school uniform we can provide you with some.

How will I get to school?

All of our young people are transported to Headlands by taxi, depending where you live you may share this journey with another young person.

What happens on the first day?

Before officially starting at Headlands young people come for a two-day visit to look around, meet staff and see if the school or residential placement is suitable to them. This means that you should recognise some of the people and areas. On your first day, you are met by your staff teams and taken either to your class or residential house to settle in.

What will I do for lunch?

All young people are provided a hot meal at lunch time. The menu has been created by the young people ensuring meals that they are familiar with and enjoy. If you have specific dietary requirements, please let staff know.

What does a day at Headlands look like?

The school day starts at 9:30am and young people go to their classes for breakfast and tutorial time. There are two lessons before break which begins at 11:40am. We then have another lesson until lunch at 12:40pm. After lunch young people have two more lessons until the taxis pick them up at 3:10pm.

What happens in the first week?

You will be helped to settle into Headlands by the staff teams, and you will gradually be shown around the different areas of the school. Staff build on their relationships with you, getting to know your likes or dislikes and starting to structure your routines.

Who can I speak to if I need anything?

You can talk to any member of staff to support you with anything at Headlands. Young people will have opportunities to talk in a safe space with their staff team. If a caregiver would like to talk to a member of staff please contact the admin team who will redirect you.
